I”ve been a fan of Lures (a local Seattle band), ever since I caught them live by chance a couple years back. Sadly, they”re pretty much inactive now, but they had this album in the can and no means to release it, so I jumped at the chance! Following up on their debut lp on Fin Records from a few years ago, this is another solid batch of songs that blur the lines between the past and the present. That is, they have a classic surfy rock sound, steeped in reverb and all that, only with songs that sound modern, in a similar style as someone like Chris Cohen and Tele Novella. But in between, they”ll go and do a surf instrumental or cover Del Shannon”s ”Runaway”. A nicely varied and rich album, let”s just hope that it”s not really their last…
