Saxophonist Gebhard Ullmann and pianist Hans Lüdemann, both prominent figures in the German jazz scene, joined forces to explore microtonality in their collaboration, mikroPULS. The group”s music resides between the exploration of new sonic landscapes and a return to the roots of African-American music, particularly the blues.

The acronym PULS represents the family names of the band members: Ullmann, Lüdemann, Eric Schaefer, and Oliver Potratz. MikroPULS engages in an intellectual challenge by experimenting with microtonality while connecting to the rich tradition of African-American music. Their goal is to create music that feels organic and self-evident, expanding the listener”s perception and challenging preconceptions.
