Catchy & jangly guitar-pop w/trumpets and the occasional string section on this German band”s fourth lp / RIYL: Comet Gain, Cinerama

Released seven years after their debut, this Hamburg quartet”s fourth album is a calmer affair than their previous ones. I”ve long used the charged jangle of the Wedding Present (one of their collective favorite bands) as a comparison when describing their general sound, but this time around many of the songs have a more refined & somewhat gentler nature – even incorporating strings at times, as well as lots of trumpet. So I guess that makes this album their Cinerama? Seriously, though: these songs retain a lot of the same qualities they”ve always had, such as excellent melodies & catchy hooks galore – but now there”s considerable more diversity than found on their previous records, and with good results! Which just goes to prove that even when you think something you love is great, it can sometimes get even better…
